Dragon Age Origins for the X box 360:

Dragon Age Origins for the X box 360:

Dragon Age Origins is an in depth role playing game in which you create a character and go though the story of becoming a Gray Warden and uniting different armies and people and races to defeat the evil Darkspawn and rid the world of the evil taint that the Darkspawn creates. This game not a linear role playing game in which you just play the game and the story unfolds in front of you, instead the story is based on your decisions and choices you make though out the game. So the out come of your game is based on the missions you choose to accept and the relationships between other characters you choose to develop. The game starts out with you creating your character in which you will chose which race you will become, there are three choices that you can make, Human, Elf, or Dwarf, and from their you can pick from two different backgrounds for each race, for example the Elf, which I picked, could either be a pure blood Elf from a small band of free Elves living in the woods, or you could have chosen to be a freed slave starting a new life. From there you have the choice of becoming a warrior, a mage or a rouge. Later in the game you will have the choice of becoming a specialist in some field depending on which fighting class you chose. So from there very beginning there is literally hundreds of choices and combinations that you can chose, this makes the game play uniquely to you because it is all based on your choice.

The game play for Dragon Age Origins is pretty good. The fighting is real time so you will see the enemies approaching and can take them down. You have the choices or your weapon or weapons in some cases, magic if you are a spell caster, and skills that you develop while playing as well as equipping items in weapons screen. While playing the game and going though the story you will recruit more people to your party and you can switch back and forth between them so you are not limited to just your character. The only draw back to fighting ,or the game itself, is all the cut scenes they have inserted though out the game. It is almost like watching a movie with a little bit of fighting here and there. Also another thing I had a hard time with was just how many decisions I did have to make before I could move forward. There is just so much that you can chose or have to do it can become a little bit intimidating.

The graphics to Dragon Age Origins is simply amazing. A lot of work went into this game to make it so well. The environment looks like it could have been a picture taken. The characters looks are done extremely well and you can customize your character down to the finest detail of the character’s eye brows. No one can say that this game was not well developed. Also the since of realisms is there. While in battle if you are killing something the blood spray covers you and it does not go away for quite some time. Also, if you chose to kill someone, and yes this choice is presented to you A LOT, when you gut them the blood sprays everywhere and your victim screams like bloody murder. Pun intended.

The music for the game is very well done. Just like in most games there is a normal back round music and then there is fighting music. The game does well in using the music to enhance game play verses hindering it with annoying back round music.

The story is actually pretty open to development. You have the basic story line and then you expand from there and create your own story. There is always at least two choices if not more to move the story along so the story and how you got there will be different from each person who plays the game. It would be impossible to make the same choices again unless you keep a detail report on what you did.

Overall it is a great game. There are some draw backs with the constant cut scenes that makes it take at least three times longer to complete some tasks and that there are so many choices after awhile you just want to kill everyone you encounter just so you do not have to deal with the hours you know you are going to spend with dealing with what ever they say. So the draw backs are just do to my impactions and my simple mindedness when it comes to tons of choices. So I give the game nine out of ten.

  1. The content of a competent review is present in this entry, but I'm not quite sure about its organization. It reads as if it was thrown together at the last minute. It doesn't spend much time on particular features of the game, preferring instead to blow through them. If a little more time had been taken in constructing this review, it'd be much better.
